Point Test Prep programs are specifically designed to help students achieve success when taking their Catholic High School Entrance Exam (CHSEE). Our courses guide students to apply their academic skills through practice, time management, and skill reinforcement. Our course alleviates test anxiety, familiarizes students with test format, and teaches test strategies. Students gain confidence and score higher.

UNIQUE FEATURES OF OUR PROGRAM:

In our present economic crisis, parents and students appreciate the accessibility to a convenient and affordable program. Competition for seats in Catholic High Schools on Long Island has been increasing yearly. Newsday quoted the statistic that for every seat available in a Catholic High School, 4 applications are received. Parents want to provide their children with every advantage possible and our Catholic High School Entrance program helps them accomplish this.

GETTING TO KNOW THE CHSEE

The Catholic High School Exam, or CHSEE, is given each year in October or November to eighth-graders seeking admission to Long Island Catholic high schools. The CHSEE measures academic achievement and academic aptitude and is used by high schools to make decisions about admitting applicants and to group prospective ninth-grade students into classes.

The exam changes from year to year so that no students are more familiar than others with the test format and content. You may see new question styles, or a different number of questions within a section. However, the content areas that the test covers remain basically the same.

The CHSEE lasts 2 and a half hours and contains approximately 180 multiple—choice questions divided into 7 subtests: Sequences, Analogies, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning—Words, Verbal Reasoning-Context, Reading and Language Arts, and Mathematic.

You receive one point for every question that you answer correctly on the CHSEE. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, and each question, regardless of how difficult it is, is worth only one point.

The points you earn, known as your raw score, are tallied and then converted to a scaled score according to a formula determined by test developers. Converting raw scores to scaled scores allows schools to compare a student’s performance on one part of the exam with his or her performance on other parts that may have included a greater or lesser number of questions.

Finally, scaled scores are reported as percentile rank. Percentile rank shows where students stand in relationship to one another on various sections and on the test as a whole.

WHAT'S A GOOD SCORE ON THE SAT?

The past few years have seen a dramatic increase in competition for students to get into the college of their choice, making SAT scores more important than ever, especially at SUNYs.

The average 2008 SAT test score was in the mid-1500s out of 2400. Generally, you should aim higher than the average SAT test score for students at your top college choices; then design your test prep to try to reach or beat that score to make yourself a competitive candidate. “Students from the class of 2008 scored on average 502
on the critical reading section. In math, the average score was 515 and the average writing score was 494. Scores are on a scale of 200 - 800”. - US News and World Reports 8/27/2008

According to a recent article in Newsday: “local high school guidance counselors report that more seniors tell them they are applying only to public colleges and universities because of a
change in the family financial situation”. Karla Schuster Nov 2, 2008.

WHAT IS SMARTBOARD TECHNOLOGY?

Smartboard technology is an extension of a computer. It uses a computer and a projector which shoots an image on to a big digitized board. This allows you to do whatever you can imagine doing with a mouse on your computer to do on the Smartboard with your hand or a tool. It allows you to open any document on the board that you could open on your computer such as: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, You Tube videos, etc.

It's a great tool to have because today's students are so used to an interactive lifestyle, multi media, streaming videos etc. that it really helps to deliver the materials in a way that students are more used to seeing.
